Sales and Operations Planning was developed in the 80’s as a process for balancing supply and demand. Based on over 25 years experience we have developed ‘Integrated Business Leadership’ (IBL). IBL extends this concept further throughout the supply chain, product and customer portfolios, customer demand and strategic planning, to deliver one seamless management process, led by the CEO.



No matter which industry you’re in, when done properly IBL can deliver huge value to your business, saving you time and the company money. We show its origins from balancing supply and demand and inventory management through to a holistic programme for managing the whole business with integrated systems, processes and behaviours.


The need for IBL

We show how to develop IBL as a means of creating better visibility, less fire fighting, and more proactive management. We look to establish a 24 month rolling horizon, that links volumes and finance, based on realistic assumptions. This is a real difference from the current environment that many companies work with of a horizon that extends to the year end, multiple sets of numbers, and siloed functional management.


Structuring IBL

Learn how the data required for IBL - families, sales forecast, supply and financial plans are all brought together into a formal monthly meeting structure based around our unique seven step process. We will detail all of the stages, together with the inputs, agendas, outputs, measures, behavious and organisation. Key is to establish an orchestral framework.


IBL process and performance measures

Many companies operate with conflicting performance measures, which leads to conflicting behaviours. We provide best practice advice for the steps in the process - innovation, demand, supply and support, together with the appropriate performance measures that support each step - using the Delos selected few.



Discover how IBL makes the decision-making process using ‘what-ifs’ more effective for the Executive Team. We show how to identify gaps to budget and strategy and how formally to resolve the issues around achieving the numbers.


Getting rid of the long budget "process"

An effective IBL process can put together the budget in a 15 day cycle, or get rid of it along with the unnecessary work involved in managing the complex budgetary process.


Implementation and avoiding pitfalls

The Delos Partnership have a formal process for implementing IBL that is built around a tried and tested methodology. Start with an assessment, then educate your senior team, develop the project resources required, kick the process off and start getting benefits within 3-6 months. Richard Watkins

Richard Watkins has specialised in helping with the understanding and implementation of Integrated Business Leadership since 1991.


Richard was part of a team in ICI Agrochemicals (now Syngenta), which implemented what was then called ‘MRP II’, and achieved Class ‘A’. The team improved Customer Service to >98% and reduced inventory by 27%. They implemented the first Global Sales and Operations Planning process. Syngenta still operate the same process today.


Since then he has worked with a large number of companies, in diverse industries from Engineering, through Chemicals to fast moving consumer goods, and from very large £ multibillion to very small. All look to get away from firefighting to integrated business systems, processes and above all people, resulting in a far more competitive and profitable organisation. All clients have seen significant business benefits in improved customer service, inventory and profitability.


David Manning

Dave's experience in developing and implementing business systems started with British Steel, where he was part of the company's manufacturing systems development team. He later joined the management team of Rolls Royce Motor Cars, where he achieved Class ‘A’ in one of the most successful MRP II implementations.

Dave has worked for the last 18 years as an Oliver Wight Associate, focussing on the implementation of change through the strategic alignment of the integrated business planning process, and has particular expertise in extended supply chain management and global sales and operations planning.

His clients have included global pharmaceutical companies, FMCG companies, chemical companies, and engineering companies.

He brings an inspirational approach to helping clients get their people to bring about major transformation through education.
