Case Study: Generic Pharmaceutical Company - Change Management
Client requirement
This leading generic pharmaceutical company had embarked on a major supply chain re-engineering project enabled by an ERP system. Whilst the company had achieved considerable progress, the CIO knew that this had been achieved at not only some considerable financial cost, but that they had also paid a high price in terms of organisational resistance.
In order to maintain project momentum and avoid a costly overrun the client needed some additional change management facilitation in order to help the team overcome the organisation blocks and barriers that had emerged.
Solution proposed and delivered
Whilst the team were were working hard, focused on meeting project deliverables they had not been as successful on keeping the key stakeholders on board.
The Delos Partner tailored a tool set consisting of 21 change management tools and techniques. Some of the concepts were delivered via formal workshops while others were drip fed in on an as required basis to minimise disruption to project deliverables.
Over the term of the project, the team became far more effective at clarifying and addressing stake holder issues, senior management sponsorship was re-established and the cultural implications of the project were better understood and managed in a more pro-active way.
Costs and Benefits
- The cost of the exercise was around £50,000.
- Change management benefits are often a leap of faith due to the intangible nature of organisation acceptance and resistance. However, with a monthly project burn rate of £200,000 the financial benefit (or cost avoidance) of reducing risk of project overrun due to organisational intransigence should not be under-estimated.
In addition, the change management tools and techniques are generic in nature and are now being applied to a variety of other projects within the company.
