Mike Richards

Michael’s initial experience with Sales and Operations Planning, as it was originally known within the framework of MRPII, was whilst working as Planning Manager for Land Rover Vehicles in 1990. Land Rover had achieved the prestigious A-Class award in 1988 and were operating with vehicle due date performance in excess of 95% with inventory turns in excess of 6 per annum.

Michael was a founder member of the Business Excellence Club whilst working with Mike Salmon’s Manufacturing Resource Planning Limited in 1992 which is when he first met Richard Watkins.  The Business Excellence Club was formed to enable clients of MRP Limited to share their learning with other Club members and so accelerate the rate of successful implementations of S&OP across a wide spectrum of UK Businesses.

Having ‘got the bug’ for S&OP relatively early in his career, he has continued to build upon this foundation achieving A-Class again in 1999 with British Aluminium Commercial Extrusions of Banbury. Further successful implementations followed at AETC Limited in Leeds and Smiths Aerospace Components in Burnley and, as S&OP has evolved into the Integrated Enterprise Leadership model that we see today, so the delivered benefits have also increased.

Having operated as a Senior Team member since leaving Land Rover in 1996, including his appointment as Managing Director for Smiths Aerospace Components in Burnley, he brings a wealth of experience with him to The Delos Partnership. This includes Business Strategy Development, Customer Relationship Management and Lean Process Implementation as well as his original skills and experiences in Supply Chain Management and Cell Manufacturing.

Michael is passionate about the tremendous benefits that can be gained from the seamless integration of the People, Processes and Systems within an enterprise and, to assist others in achieving these benefits, will be teaching on the Integrated Enterprise Leadership, Sales Forecasting, Supply Chain Management and Lean and Agile Courses for The Delos Partnership

Michael gained a BSc in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Southampton in 1986 and is widely known within, amongst others, the engineering and aerospace sectors of UK manufacturing.
